*The Blind Side* star Quinton Aaron is opening up about his road to recovery after suffering a spinal stroke in January, and the heartbreaking discovery about his marriage amid his health crisis.
Aaron, 41, shared his health update during an interview with ABC News' Steve Osunsami shared on *Good Morning America* Monday. From an Atlanta hospital where Aaron attends physical therapy working to regain his ability to walk, the actor explained that he's currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation and managing diabetes, which his doctors have said contributed to the stroke.
"The doctors projected that it could take months, it could be a year, or up to a year," Quinton shared of his progress. "I said, 'I don't claim that time frame. I'll be walking a lot sooner than you think.' That's just how I believe. That's how, you know, between me, my faith, and my relationship with God."

Aaron's family shared the news of his stroke on Jan. 29, days after TMZ reported that the actor had been hospitalized after collapsing on the stairs of his Atlanta apartment.
In a statement shared with ABC News, his family said the actor was on the mend, writing, "To update everyone, he had a spinal stroke. He is alert, aware and recovering. The Aaron family has a lot to deal with for the betterment of their loved one, but will be sure to keep everyone posted regarding Quinton‘s health as we see fit."
Now, three months later, Dr. Nithin Devireddy, medical director at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Atlanta, told *GMA *that the actor is in therapy "every day, three hours a day" working to regain his ability to walk. Aaron added that although his recovery could take time, he remains optimistic, especially about returning to acting.
But Aaron's recovery hasn't been smooth sailing, especially as his marriage to Margarita DeLeon — with whom the actor tied the knot in December 2024 — took an unexpected turn. Aaron shared that during the four-day-long coma his spinal stroke left him in, his family reportedly discovered that DeLeon was still legally married to someone else.

The actor claimed that while he was hospitalized, an attorney found records showing DeLeon was still married to her estranged husband Eric Guzman, whom she wed in 1992, and thus could not legally make medical decisions on his behalf. "That's what eventually led to the doctors removing her from around me," Aaron told Osunsami.
"The entire time we were together, she told me she had been divorced for 10-plus years," he added. "She even told the person where we were getting married, 'Oh yes, I have all the documents. I can email over to you the divorce decree.'"
Aaron said that he never saw DeLeon's divorce decree, calling it his "biggest mistake." He also described allegedly learning the truth about the marriage upon waking up from his coma as a learning lesson. "If I had a chance to do it over, I would have done my due diligence," he reflected. "I would've definitely done a lot more research."

*GMA *also spoke with DeLeon, who argued that she had no idea her divorce had never been finalized.
"When I told Quinton back in the hospital bed, and I want to be very honest about this, I feel like this needs to be said and brought out there," she told the outlet. "I said to him, I said, 'Baby, this information that your family pulled up on me, you know, I wasn't aware of it.' I said, 'This is what I found out. It is true.'"

Guzman backed up DeLeon's version of events, telling ABC News that they both believed that their filing had gone through years ago. When they learned otherwise, Guzman filed for divorce in February.
Despite the conflict, Aaron asserted that he's focusing on his recovery. When asked what he would tell his younger self after all he has faced this year, Aaron said, "Learn to pay attention to a lot, a lot of stuff."
He added, "I started paying attention to my body because I found out over the years, it was speaking very disrespectfully to me, and I was ignoring it."
