A screening of The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants had some fans asking: where were Ice Spice’s?
Ice Spice, the 25-year-old rapper born Isis Gaston, not only has a cameo in the new animated film, but she also wrote a song for the movie (“Big Guy”) full of SpongeBob references. That is why she attended a special showing in New York on Dec. 18. The official SpongeBobMovie Instagram posted photos of her at the screening, showing her outfit: a white translucent lace dress, pumps, and pink hair.
However, commenters were a bit mixed on the look, especially since the dress was sheer enough to show off her own “bikini bottom.”

“She could’ve worn anything, a cute top and some jeans, a cute skirt and a cute jacket to match, but she wears a see-through dress and a thong to a kids movie premiere,” reads one of the most-liked comments on the post.
“Normalize dressing appropriately when you're a part of kid-related things like this,” added another. “This is so inappropriate. Why are we ok with this,” wrote one upset fan.

However, some pointed out that it might have been a pun. The SpongeBob SquarePants show takes place in a town called Bikini Bottom. One of Ice Spice’s earliest hits was also called “Bikini Bottom.” And many in the comments said she was “trying to be clever with bikini bottoms.”
SpongeBob SquarePants debuted on Nickelodeon in July 1999. Those kids who first watched SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy and Mr. Krabs have likely grown up and will take their kids to this new movie.
Apparently, the film’s writers, Pam Brady (Smurfs, Team America: World Police) and Matt Lieberman (Scoob!, The Christmas Chronicles 2), have included some humor that appeals to parents as well as kids. For example, the trailer features a runningjoke about SpongeBob and a brick, a visual gag to a mature pun.
In September, Ice Spice had another fashion moment at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. With help from celebrity stylist Timothy Luke Garcia, Ice Spice walked the red carpet in a Victorian-era-inspired corset and a patchwork maxi dress, both from Ralph Lauren. Many publications praised Ice’s outfit, but the biggest co-sign came from Kristin Davis.
Davis, who portrayed Charlotte York on Sex and the City, shared a side-by-side of her character wearing a similar outfit to Ice Spice’s (season 6, episode 2). Davis also included the “hands-making-a-heart” emoji, giving love to the rapper.
“Corsets are the key to life. I love a good corset,” Ice Spice told Entertainment Tonight, adding that though she “can barely breathe,” she felt comfortable in the outfit.
