On Friday, April 17, the pop star released "Drop Dead," the lead single from her forthcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
"drop dead is out now!!!! I love this song so much!!! it’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out!" Rodrigo, 23, captioned an Instagram post about the song on Friday, April 17.
She continued, "I was lucky enough to film the music video at the palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful @petrafcollins and I’m so stoked with how it turned out. I hope you guys love it as much as I do xoxoxoxo 🩷🩷🩷🩷🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼💋💋💋💋 @chateauversailles."
A softer departure from some of the more grunge tracks in her repertoire, "Drop Dead" sees Rodrigo, 23, musing over a crush, stalking them online and analyzing their astrological signs. She even nods to The Cure in the lyrics.

"I know that the bar closes at 11 / But I hope you never finish that beer / You know all the words to 'Just Like Heaven' / And I know why he wrote them / Now that you're standin' right here," she sings over dreamy synths.
Alongside the track, Rodrigo shared its music video directed by Petra Collins, which features the "good 4 u" hitmaker running wild in the iconic Palace of Versailles.

Throughout the visual, the three-time Grammy winner can be seen traipsing through the palace's opulent halls in a coquettish ensemble, capturing the elation of newfound romance.
At one point in the video, Rodrigo grabs her guitar and performs with her bandmates in the stunning venue.

At the time, Rodrigo also shared the album's cover, which sees her carefree and upside down on a swing.

Speaking with British Vogue, she revealed it was “a creative challenge to write from a joyful place" for the album.
“When you're experiencing that you're connected to someone, or feeling really good, you're not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!” said Rodrigo, who was previously linked to British actor Louis Partridge and was recently spotted out to dinner with Geese frontman Cameron Winter.
She also said the record would be full of “sad love songs,” explaining, “I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is out June 12.
