Kate Hudson had the chance to star as Mary Jane Watson in Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man but turned it down for another opportunity.
"It doesn’t feel good to talk about it ’cause the people who are in the movie are the right people and your circumstances in life happen the way they happen," Hudson said during the Monday, December 22, episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, of the role that ultimately went to Kirsten Dunst. "It’s one of those things where I look back like, ‘That would have been nice to be in a Spider-Man movie.'"
The Almost Famous star added that she has no regrets, as turning down the superhero film led to a chance of a lifetime.

"But at the same time, I did a movie called Four Feathers. I got to meet Heath Ledger, who became a very good friend, and I got an experience that I would have never had," she continued. "A part of me is like, 'Life happens exactly the way it’s supposed to.' And so, I’m grateful for it. But I do look at it, and I’m like, 'Aw, it would have been fun to be [Mary Jane].'"
Four Feathers—released in September 2002—was a war drama based on the 1902 novel by A. E. W. Mason. Hudson and Ledger shared the screen with Djimon Hounsou and Yellowstone's Wes Bentley.
According to Variety, the film received mixed reviews from critics and made just $29 million at the box office, falling short of its $35 million budget.
In January 2008, Ledger was found unresponsive in his Manhattan apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dark Knight actor was just 28 years old.
