BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Cleveland Browns selected Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano ninth overall after trading down three spots with Kansas City at the NFL draft Thursday night.

Fano was a first-team All-American, won the Outland Trophy as the nation's top lineman and was the Big 12's offensive lineman of the year.

Fano was also the first offensive tackle off the board. The Browns had a need for a franchise left tackle despite rebuilding most of their line in free agency.

Head coach Todd Monken said Fano will play left tackle despite Fano playing right tackle the past couple years.

“Character, athleticism, toughness,” Monken said about Fano.

Cleveland got a third- and fifth-round pick from the Chiefs for moving down.
