Liza Minnelli delivered a powerful and heartfelt message regarding the death of beloved actor and notable director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner.
The entertainment industry was devastated by the tragic passing of the couple on Dec. 14 after they were found dead inside their Los Angeles home.
Following the investigation, the 78-year-old Hollywood director and his photographer and film producer wife died from "multiple sharp force injuries" as determined by the medical examiner.
Unfortunately, the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, who spent years struggling with addiction, was arrested and faces two counts of first-degree murder for the death of his parents.

The couple’s untimely death sparked a deeply personal reflection from Liza Minnelli.
In an Instagram post, the music legend shared a black-and-white photo of her drinking and smoking, but emphasized that the post was not at all about her.
She opened her message by recognizing the loss of the high-profile couple and highlighting the devastating consequences when "violence and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) collide."
"It tells a universal story that needs no explanation. Let’s back up. Like everyone I know, our hearts are shattered over the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. When violence and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) collide, the devastation reaches far beyond one moment, one person, one family," she wrote.
Continuing her message, she spoke about how SUD is a "dangerous illness" and shared her own experience, admitting that she stayed silent out of shame but only realized that hiding it only made things worse.
"We are all grieving. We are all feeling this great loss. The gut-wrenching question is: Could this tragedy have been prevented? Could these precious, sweet, genius lives have been saved? I fear we will never have absolute answers. Silence only weakens the soul and deepens the harm. I stayed quiet about my own SUD battles for far too long. I believed shame was safer. It wasn’t," she wrote.
Minnelli also highlighted the reason she wrote her memoir, where she discussed the challenges along her journey.
"That’s why I wrote Kids Wait Till You Hear This, which will be published in March 2026, to tell the truth, to share chaos, destruction and death can happen to anyone, everyone and to remind us that recovery is possible. You or someone you love is struggling with SUD. And you know that is true. Please also know, you are not alone. Asking for help is strength not weakness. We owe it to each person in the battle… to each person we’ve lost… we owe it to ourselves and each other to get well before."
Concluding her post, she urged fans to express love and support to everyone and empathy for the grieving family.
"Reach out today… before it’s too late. Join me tonight in praying for the Reiner family. God knows they need it. I love you all," she wrote.
The post sparked positive responses from fans, many of whom thanked the "New York, New York" icon for her heartfelt and courageous message.
"It feels like everyone is a victim in the Reiner tragedy. Thank you for sharing your struggles and experience, @officiallizaminnelli. You are respected, adored and most of all loved!" a commenter said.

The 79-year-old has been open about her struggle with prescription drug abuse and alcoholism, intensified by the death of her mother, Judy Garland.
Besides her book, she also spoke about it in her documentary film, Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2024.
